Wolves and moon night
We left San Felipe and rode along the coastal desert road. The thick sand dunes on both sides of the road piled up into mountains, and the blue sea was beside us. We have been heading towards the airport, and there are fewer and fewer vehicles on the road, and the desolation emerges spontaneously. Occasionally, a bald eagle flies over the electric pole in the distance, overlooking the entire valley, looking for its lunch. Walking around a sand dune, I was stunned by the scenery in front of me. Purple flowers bloomed in the middle of the desert, swearing the power and beauty of life, as if life was activated at this moment, playing the movement of life.
A few coyotes disturbed our camp on a moonlit night, and there wasn’t much food for them. They are gradually driven away by our lights. It’s just that their bleak calls are occasionally heard at night.
In the early morning, I opened the tent and saw the golden sea and sky. The time was 5:30 in the morning. The sun was about to rise, and the waves had already receded. The sea is so vast yet so calm. Occasionally a few pelicans or frigate birds fly by. The bright red sun shines on the earth, and everything starts a new day. I test-flyed a drone on the beach, looking at the Gulf of California from a high altitude, surrounded by sparse vegetation, and the sea water showed wonderful colors under the bright sunlight, which reminded me of those lakes in Sichuan and Tibet.
Two Sungold solar panels charge the battery, which works great when the sun is shining. Continue to set off and look for small shops or post stations with food and water. It is almost impossible to find water sources in the natural environment in this arid and rainless desert area.
The only supermarket is a small store that was not on the map that I came across before. The store didn’t have bottled water and had to use a container to pick up the water. I bought a 5-liter bottle of water and had to pay 20 . I gave the boss 50, but he had no money for change.
In the end, the boss proposed tossing a coin to decide whether to keep the money or take away the water. We didn’t find a campsite until nightfall, and finally found a suitable place to lie down in the granite desert. By the time the tent was set up, it was already dark and the moon had already climbed up.
The cacti in the wilderness, together with our tent on the granite, are as beautiful as a painting. At night, the wind and clouds flew over my head, and I prayed that the sky would not change. Continue to move forward tomorrow, and arrive at the town in another 60 kilometers.
